Our Work
As a recognised Social Action Hub, Octopus Community Network supports residents, community groups, and local organisations to strengthen their ability to shape positive change in their neighbourhoods. Our work is grounded in the belief that when people are supported to listen to one another, build relationships, and understand shared priorities, communities become more confident and better equipped to influence what happens around them.
Through delivering community organising training accredited through the National Academy of Community Organising we help people develop practical skills in listening, relationship-building, and community engagement. This training supports residents to understand local issues more deeply, connect with others who share similar concerns, and explore ways to improve their neighbourhoods together.
A key part of our approach is convening and facilitating People’s Assemblies. These inclusive gatherings create space for residents to share experiences, explore challenges, and identify what matters most to them. Assemblies help communities build a clearer, collective voice and develop ideas for change that reflect local priorities and lived experience.
We also work closely with Community Organisers Ltd and The Humanity Project, connecting our neighbourhood-based work to national partners and wider networks. This collaboration helps bring new perspectives and resources into Islington while ensuring that local voices contribute to national conversations about community power and social change.
Across all of this work, Octopus focuses on creating the conditions for communities to grow in confidence, strengthen local relationships, and influence the future of their neighbourhoods. By supporting people to connect, reflect, and organise together, we help build a more engaged, resilient, and empowered Islington.
