The Market Road ‘Wild and Green’ Nature Garden will transform a neglected and unloved section of a local park that is currently in poor condition into a newly usable woodland nature garden with increased bio-diversity that will be pleasant and accessible for local people.
We will be running regular community gardening sessions in partnership with Hayward Playground and local youth groups and schools, to ensure that the facilities and the nature planting are looked after. By improving the environment, and the access to nature within the space, there will be a positive impact on the health and well-being of these families; enabling them to feel more valued as members of the community.
In April 2018 we began discussions with key stakeholders at Market Road Gardens (Parks Service, Hayward Playground, Holloway School. Friends Group, Children’s Services) about ideas for the space; looking at problems and solutions. Through this we were able to establish what was needed, why and what was possible, making sure that we considered the unique character and requirements for multi purpose use.
We've had a corporate group and children from Holloway School come along to help so far!
The project will make a difference:
We've now completed lots of planning, designing and clearing - so we're ready to start planting in the Autumn!
