In August 2018 we took over an unused space on the Hollins and McCall Estate in Tufnell Park as the site for our new Community Plant Nursery. Since then, with the help of Islington Greenspace and the Council's Homes and Communities team, we have added a polytunnel, container and water supply, as well as raised beds with the help of young people from the National Citizenship Service (NCS) - getting the space ready for the community to get involved!
We were very excited to be able to get the Community Plant Nursery up and running, ready for community consultation with local people. We’ve already had lots of interest from local people, who have joined us at our gardening sessions.
'Its such a lovely safe space, my little one is in heaven being outdoors and getting to do these activities’
‘I am often lonely so its great if I can get to meet and talk to people’
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic the Community Plant Nursery is closed to residents and the general public. The plants are still growing and being cared for, safely and are being carefully distributed to our growing networks in Islington.
