The Octopus We Can Grow team have been involved with the Islington in Bloom competition right from the start. Indeed our project was launched at a joint event with Islington in Bloom 2017 at a splendid event held at the Islington Business Design Centre.
With all the restrictions caused by the Covid-19 emergency it looked like the competition might not go ahead in 2020, but we are delighted to tell you that it will, albeit with a delayed start and a new look this year. Because of all the difficulties imposed by the need to maintain social distancing, it will be moved on-line and become a virtual show, with entries judged from photographs. Also, there will be no community gardening entries included, but lots more opportunities for individuals to enter, even if you don’t have a garden, and special categories for children to enter too.
Watch this space and others for more details but just to whet your appetite of what is possible, the picture above is a collection of pots from my own garden. We'll be putting more photos on twitter so keep your eyes peeled!
We will be giving you lots of tips and ideas over the coming weeks but in the meantime, get started on planning what you might do. It could be as small as a single indoor plant, a window box or a child’s drawing or model of their dream garden. Find the categories here.
Entries will be judged by photos, with entrants sending one or two photographs totalling no more than 10 Mb to firstname.lastname@example.org
You can get more inspiration via the @IslingtoninBloom Instagram page and we will be offering more ideas and tips!
